Multicultural Council recognises the community

At a recent social-cultural event organised by the Christchurch Multicultural Council (CMC), a number of members of different ethnic community groups and agencies were recognised for their significant voluntary services. Recipient of Certificates of Appreciation for their significant contribution to multicultural communities of Canterbury were Tabassum Ansari (Shakti), Quoon Chin (Chinese Association), Akash Drupka (Bhutanse Society), Naoki Ikeda (Plains FM 96.9), Ram Kodukula (Indian Social and Cultural Club), Matthew Ladbrook (Riccarton High School), Deepak Pandey (Nepalese Society) and Carla Vivanco (Volunteering Canterbury).
  Guest speaker Glenda Martin, Outreach and Marketing Manager, Volunteering Canterbury, spoke about the benefits of volunteering and the value the volunteers add to our society. Surinder Tandon, President of CMC, noted, "Like CMC, all individual community groups are run by volunteers and we highly value their passion for voluntary service." The event, which was supported by Rotary Neighbourhood Project, also included stage performances and food from diverse community groups.
